Poker Bankroll Management

Poker bankroll management is very essential to all poker players. Poker players would have to know how to make use of the bankroll management effectively. Bankroll management is based on the following two concepts: target profits and stop loss. Target profits is when you would have to set up your own profit limit meaning this is the total limit of how much money you are willing to get during the day. If your profit targets are met then you certainly have to leave the poker table and continue game play the following day.

For the new player, setting your profit target tends to be a complex task but for simplicity, your profit target should be at max 25-30% of your initial bankroll. Disregard to what stake sizes you are playing, your profit target should always be the same but it would be pointless for you to play low stakes if you have a very high bankroll.

Your profit targets are in relation to your bankroll and this governs your table selection.

Stop Loss is when you set your limit loss. For example, you set the total amount which you are willing to lose during that day.

Bankroll management is very essential and players should note that your bankroll is known as your risk money. Your risk money does not necessarily mean that you should lose all of it but with proper bankroll management you will be able to reduce your risk of losing all your bankroll.

There are several factors that influence your bankroll: table selection, game selection and poker room selection.

Table selection - You need to select a table that suits your bankroll. If your bankroll is low then you should consider selecting a table of lower stakes. Table selection is very important and it also plays a big role in your bankroll management.

Game selection - You need to select a game that you are very good at. Selecting a game for practice would be advisable for you to make use of a low bankroll. Mastering a game increases your chance of winning and at the same time it safe guards your bankroll.

Poker room selection - You need to select a good room that has got a high traffic of players that are at you level. It would be pointless if you keep playing with players above your level as they will always reduce your bankroll. If your poker skills are not yet sharp, you need to focus on selecting a room that offers a high traffic of players who play low stakes due to the fact that most low stake players are beginners and they tend not to risk more of their money playing bigger stakes.
